IN COMPANY CLASSES

International House placement tests are both quick and accurate when it comes to placing students in the correct level. A group of 5 or 6 students can be accurately tested in an hour, for example. Placement tests are compulsory, to ensure the classes are as homogenous as possible. The tests include a diagnosis of the student’s range and accuracy of grammar and vocabulary, their listening and reading skills and their speaking and writing.

The levels at International House are aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), an international standard for describing language ability. It is used around the world to describe learners’ language skills. The six CEFR levels show what a student ‘can do’ in different situations and describe their skill-based communicative proficiency.

Classes:
Frequency, duration and methodology.

Hours:
There is a minimum number of 12 hours a month per class.

The suggested schedule for group classes is as follows:
90-minute classes twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The teaching methodology used at International House uses a broadly communicative approach where the student is at the centre of the learning and learns through using the four skills under the watchful and supportive eye of an experienced and highly qualified teacher, who provides feedback and language upgrade on their communicative experiences.

The company will receive monthly updates of student attendance and bimonthly individual progress reports for each student.  At the end of the three-month study period, the students can take a formal proficiency test to highlight their progress.

The company or student should acquire the course book and workbook recommended by the institute when appropriate.

All other materials will be provided by International House.

The company needs to provide an appropriate workspace for the lessons, including a laptop with CD, Wi-Fi and a whiteboard.
